UNWIND SPA BY TO. NAILS TOUCH
Japanese Head Spa in Downtown Toronto
Second floor, directly above our King West nail salon.
THE RITUAL
Your scalp is skin. We treat it that way.
If you have been in for a manicure at 317 King Street West, you have walked past the stairs. Up on the second floor is Unwind Spa — a Japanese head spa and wellness studio built around a simple idea: the skin on your scalp responds to care exactly the way the skin on your face does, and almost nobody gives it any.
A head spa is not a haircut and it is not a shampoo. You lie back in a private bay while a therapist works through a warm steam cleanse, a deep scalp treatment, and a long neck and shoulder massage. Most people fall asleep somewhere in the middle. You leave with hair that feels lighter and a nervous system that has genuinely switched off.
Same building, same team, same standards you already know us for.

Common questions
What actually is a Japanese head spa?
A Japanese head spa is a treatment for your scalp, not your hair. It combines a deep cleanse, therapeutic massage and a slow flow of warm water to leave your scalp genuinely clean and the rest of you completely switched off. The Japanese approach treats the scalp as skin — the foundation your hair grows out of — and that is what separates it from a shampoo at the basin.
What happens during the treatment
- Consultation. Your therapist looks at your scalp and asks about your hair before anything begins — dryness, oil, flaking, buildup at the hairline. This decides which cleanser and which mask you get.
- Head Shiatsu massage. Pressure-point work across the skull, temples and the base of the neck, done dry so the pressure is direct. Most of the tension people hold in the jaw and forehead lets go here.
- Deep cleanse and double wash. A clarifying cleanse lifts product residue, hard-water minerals and sebum from the follicle, followed by a second wash under warm water.
- Nourishing mask. Worked through the mid-lengths and ends and left to do its job, chosen to match what your scalp actually needed.
- Shoulder and neck massage. Done while the mask processes — the part most people remember afterwards.
- Rinse and professional blow dry. You leave finished and styled, not damp.
What it actually does
- A cleaner, calmer scalp. Buildup cleared without stripping the oils your scalp needs.
- Better circulation through the skin your hair grows from, which is the environment healthy hair depends on.
- Real stress relief. An hour of sustained scalp and neck pressure does more for a nervous system that has been switched on all week than most people expect. Most guests fall asleep somewhere in the middle.
To be straight with you: this is scalp care, not a hair-loss treatment. It improves the condition of the scalp, but it will not regrow hair that has already gone. If that is your concern, see a dermatologist — many guests find head spa treatments a good complement alongside proper medical advice.
Which treatment should I choose?
Signature Head Spa (75 min, $120) is the full ritual and the best place to start. Deep Cleanse (90 min, $175) goes harder on product buildup and sebum at the follicle. Scalp Renewal (105 min, $205) is our most thorough, with scalp massage and a nutrient mask. Oway Unwind Head Spa (90 min, $215) is the most complete ritual we offer, built on Oway biodynamic botanicals. If you are unsure, your therapist will talk it through with you.
Does hair texture change the price?
Curly hair may cost extra, depending on how much time and product it takes. Your therapist will confirm this with you at the consultation, before the treatment starts — nothing is ever added at the counter.
Coily hair: we are not currently able to accommodate coily hair. Please call us on (647) 953-4372 before you book and we will talk it through with you.
Where exactly are you?
317 King Street West, second floor — directly above the TO. Nails Touch nail salon. About five minutes on foot from St Andrew station, with paid parking on Adelaide West, Widmer Street and John Street.
Can I add a manicure or pedicure to the same visit?
Yes. The nail salon is on the ground floor of the same building. Mention it when you book and we will line the timing up so you are not sitting around between appointments.
